"Stay In Control of Your Future"

February 26, 2007

The Farm Line is making plans for a one-day conference that will assist you to "Stay In Control of Your Future". The conference is scheduled for April 5th, in Kemptville.

The "Reaching Out" study completed this past year by the Board of Directors of The Farm Line Support Service identified several areas of concern. Farmers from all across Ontario reported that it is difficult to find trusted and objective financial and business management advice and resources. Other concerns heard many times included "Who will be there to take over our farms?" and "How can we transfer our farm operation to the next generation and ensure our retirement and their financial future?"

Participants will be provided with tools that will assist them in seeking the support, help and information needed to ensure they don't let opportunities slip through their fingers. Encouraging this exploration, coupled with the ability to take advantage of these opportunities from the 'outside world', will allow farm and rural families to improve their quality of life and diversify the farm and rural economy.

Key note speakers will be discussing effective management of finances, from both a borrowing perspective as well as an investment point of view. They will assist participants in identifying business risks and the development of a management plan that will ensure the future of their farming operations and businesses.

The success of Ontario farm and rural communities depends largely on the ability of our farmers to diversify and adapt to the changes being imposed by a global market place. "Tomorrow's farmers are today's young farmers." Everyone must possess the tools and the skills required to use them in order for their farm or business to maintain or develop a competitive edge and continue to succeed.

The "Stay In Control of Your Future" info-session will be held in Purvis Hall, Kemptville College Campus, Kemptville and runs from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. A pre-registration fee of $25.00, lunch included, is required by March 30th, 2007. For more information or to register, please contact Shirley Munro or Susan Klein-Swormink at 613-774-5404.
